1. Description of Service
The Reference Formatting service is designed to meticulously align your manuscript’s in-text citations and final bibliography with the exact technical requirements of your target journal or preferred academic style guide (e.g., APA, MLA, Vancouver, Harvard, Chicago). Our team ensures proper citation order, correct punctuation, consistent styling, and the inclusion of necessary metadata.
2. Scope of Work and Limitations
To ensure clear expectations, please note the specific boundaries of this service:
- Styling vs. Fact-Checking: We focus strictly on the formatting and presentation of the references you provide. We do not fact-check the scientific validity of the cited papers, nor do we verify whether a citation perfectly supports the claim made in your manuscript.
- Missing Information: Authors are expected to provide complete reference details (Author names, Title, Journal Name, Year, Volume, Issue, and Page numbers). If critical information is missing from your drafted reference list, we will attempt to locate it (such as a DOI or publication year). However, if the source cannot be readily verified online, we will leave a comment requesting that you provide the missing metadata.
- Not a Literature Review Service: We format only the references already selected and included in your manuscript. We do not search for additional literature or remove existing citations.
3. Author Responsibilities & Submission Requirements
To accurately format your references, you must provide:
- Target Journal or Style Guide: The exact name of the target journal or the required citation style (e.g., APA 7th Edition).
- Complete Manuscript: A manuscript containing all intended in-text citations along with a corresponding draft bibliography. Every in-text citation must have a matching reference list entry, and every reference must be cited within the text.
4. Reference Management Software (EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc.)
If you have used reference management software to generate your bibliography:
- We strongly recommend removing active field codes and exporting your bibliography as plain text before submitting your manuscript.
- If you submit a document with active reference management coding, our formatting changes will be made manually to the text. Warning: If you later update your reference management software within the same document, the software may overwrite and remove our formatting. Outreach Services is not responsible for formatting lost due to software synchronization.
5. Quality Guarantee and Free Revisions
We guarantee that your citations and reference list will be formatted according to the guidelines of the target journal or citation style specified at the time of submission.
- If the journal editor returns your manuscript specifically citing reference formatting errors that we overlooked, we will correct those errors free of charge.
- To claim a free revision, you must provide the journal's exact feedback within 30 days of the report's delivery.
- Note: References added after the final formatted document has been delivered are not covered under the free revision policy.
6. Limitation of Liability
- Outreach Services and Dr. Arup Giri shall not be held liable for manuscript rejections or publication delays caused by missing citations, inaccurate data provided by the author, or failure to cite sources ethically (including plagiarism).
- The maximum liability of Outreach Services for any claim arising from this service shall not exceed the total fee paid for the Reference Formatting order (₹250).
